Goucher College Art Galleries proudly presents Soft Flesh, Volatile Insides, a multimedia exhibition that unravels the intricate relationship between the body and societal expectations through the lens of soft sculpture. Featuring the work of Monique Crabb, Charlotte Richardson-Deppe, Ash Garner, and Stephanie J. Williams, the exhibition transforms the gallery into a space of dialogue, reflection, and critical inquiry.
The soft sculptures range in content and form, from soft guns, webs made from clothing, internal organs, hand tufted rugs, text, and a very hungry caterpillar.
“This exhibition explores how artists use softness—not as fragility—but as a strategy of resistance and resilience,” says Liz Faust, Director of Exhibitions. “Through tactile and intimate materials, these artists confront the volatility beneath the surface of our flesh—the contradictions, constraints, and power embedded within our bodies.”
