Book Signing - Camila de Ilhéus' Saudade

Goucher Art Galleries will host the Baltimore release and signing of SAUDADE, the first photobook by photographer Camila de Ilhéus, on Saturday, September 12, from 3–6 p.m. in the Silber Art Gallery. The Baltimore event marks the first of an international series of releases for the publication, with subsequent events planned for Los Angeles and São Paulo, Brazil.

At the heart of the book is a word that resists translation.

Saudade describes a particular kind of longing: the love that remains in the presence of absence, the ache for something that has passed, or even the yearning for something that has not yet happened and may never exist. Neither quite grief nor nostalgia, saudade occupies the uncertain space between memory, desire, distance, and love.
